7 October 2015 – The President's Award for the Environment (PAE), organized by the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources (MEWR) is the highest environmental accolade, which recognizes outstanding contributions towards Singapore’s environmental and water resource sustainability. The award was presented to SSMC by the President of Singapore from the President of Singapore - His Excellency, Dr. Tony Tan.
6 October 2015 – The EENP Award for Excellence in Energy Management was presented to SSMC by Dr. Amy Khor, Senior Minister of State for Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources. The award honors SSMC’s effort in sustained energy efficiency improvement; adopt best practices in a proactive approach towards energy management.
On 18 Sep 2015, more than 300 people from industries (water users), government agencies (PUB, EDB, JTC etc), as well as water technology and solutions providers were gathered to discuss and share knowledge about the best practices of water conservation.The Industrial Water Solutions (JI IWS) Forum 2015 was organised by PUB, EDB and JTC who aim to promote best organisations in water management to transform Singapore to a Global Hydro hub.
The 2015 SSMC Transform & NIQC (National Innovation & Quality Circle) Convention was held from 9 to 10 July 2015 at the Changi Airport Crowne Plaza Hotel. A total of 31 teams participated.The Convention was a success, attended by more than 200 people. With each year, Transform continues to provide many opportunities for learning, sharing and recognition.
On 3 July 2015, Kelly Sofian, our Senior Director of Quality and HR, represented SSMC at the ILO conference "Fostering Female Talent in the Workforce: Women in Business and Management".Kelly shared SSMC initiatives for fostering female talents in the workplace, such as having an adoptive work environment for pregnant women, providing equal opportunities for career development, and HR policies that offer female employees an integrated work-life scheme.
SSMC received the Best Eco Practices Award for our environmental sustainability efforts at the 2015 Eco Action Day on 5 June. The award recognizes the importance of SSMC’s role and our efforts in corporate social responsibility. It also affirms SSMC’s continuous drive towards sustainability for our future generation. Since 2003, SSMC's energy and water-saving projects have contributed to more than 10milllion kWh and 1million m3 saved to date respectively.
Director of Product and Test Engineering, Cheah Lai Wan, represented SSMC as a speaker at Semicon Southeast Asia 2015 in Penang, Malaysia. Lai Wan addressed the challenges and requirements of short product life cycle, achieving success in product introduction, and achieving Fast Yield Ramp Up. Given SSMC’s profound experience and understanding in these areas, SSMC is well-positioned to gain competitive advantages for our customers.
On 13 April 2015, SSMC further strengthened its partnership with Temasek Polytechnic through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU paves the way for closer collaboration in areas such as internships and career opportunities for Temasek Polytechnic students. SSMC is a strong advocate of life-long learning and embraces many shared values with Temasek Polytechnic. Through the collaboration, SSMC aims to create talents and contribute to making Singapore competitive in the 21st century electronics industry landscape.
On 10 April 2015, SSMC awarded eight suppliers for their extraordinary performance in areas such as technology support, quality, price categories, sustainability and commitment. On 28 March 2015, SSMC celebrated Earth Hour by switching off non-essential lights on our business premises. SSMC supports the “change climate change” movement through initiatives such as implementing LED lightings in our buildings and Fab. These initiatives not only help SSMC to operate our business more efficiently but also control energy wastage and reduce our ecological footprint.
In 2014, SSMC conducted a series of benchmarking with best-in-class companies from automotive, aerospace and hotel and resort industries. SSMC successfully implemented best practices in areas such as leadership, visual communications and electronic preventive maintenance. In 2015, SSMC continues to raise the bar in our business excellence journey.
