SSMC TRANSFORM Convention took place once again on 8 December 2023, highlighting the spirit of collaboration and continuous improvement at SSMC. Five representatives from NXP, TSMC and SSMC management formed a judging panel, they witnessed the diverse range of projects showcased by all 15 teams. The night continued to sparkle with Dinner & Awards Ceremony to honor the top 5 teams.
Cohorts of SSMC engineers ventured on a captivating 4-week overseas training program at TSMC in Q2 & Q3 2023, embarked on a transformative experience. The visits deepened our engineers’ understanding of equipment, processes and workflows as well as machine design and process tuning techniques.
In partnership with PUB, SSMC organized an educational trail to Lorong Halus Wetland, on 6 October 2023, to reinforce our ESG goals and highlight SSMC’s commitment to environmental stewardship. The wetland showcases the synergy between technology and nature in their wastewater treatment. SSMC recognizes the importance of preserving Singapore's water resources, and will continue to pursue water conservation initiatives to be an eco-friendly semiconductor manufacturing company.
SSMC received the Energy Efficiency National Partnership (EENP) Award for Best Practices from the National Environment Agency of Singapore on 4 October, 2023. Recognized for pioneering large-scale Plasma Gas Abatement technology, SSMC reduced Perfluorocarbons (PFC) emissions by 95%, resulting in an annual reduction of 87,000 tonnes of CO2. Lim Soon, CEO of SSMC, highlighted SSMC commitment to carbon neutrality by 2035, emphasizing our role in fighting climate change.
On 19 September, SSMC participated the SSIA Summit 2023 and celebrated the Singapore Semiconductor Industry's 55th anniversary in the Semiconductor 55 dinner. The event, themed "Forging Resilience: Navigating Supply Chain Disruptions” focused on strengthening the semiconductor supply chain and addressing key industry trends. SSMC expressed gratitude for the support from SSIA and emphasized our commitment in further collaboration to support the industry success and growth.
As we celebrated the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) day in July, SSMC affirms our commitment to support National Service (SAF and Home Team) and our National Servicemen heroes in the company got to enjoy FREE waffles and drinks, as token of appreciation for their dedicated service in our country.
In July 2023, SSMC reached out to schools and showcased to youth on semiconductor innovation and career prospects at the WorldSkills ASEAN 2023. SSMC's booth captivated students with VR smart factory tours and engaging activities, igniting curiosity about how semiconductor technology is creating a positive impact to the world. Our career talk to National Junior College students helped empowering them to explore potential opportunities in STEM and dynamic semiconductor field.
SSMC's commitment to community outreach was featured in the July issue of SSIA VOICE Magazine. The 'Thank You Hampers' for healthcare workers and the support for stay-home mothers through the heart bakers program highlighted our contributions towards the society during the pandemic. The donations support for the North East Growth Fund and the North East Dedication Ambulance Service had made a positive impact in our community.
As part of SSMC’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, a beach clean-up activity was organized by SSMC in conjunction with young students from Global Indian International School at Pasir Ris Park on 19 May 2023. 150 enthusiasts participated the clean-ups, collected 230 kg of coastal litter and made a difference in our ocean ecosystem.
SSMC is delighted to host an Interns Appreciation Day to honour our Interns from various polytechnics and universities. They also celebrated their success with SSMC mentors. During the students’ internship journey, they had hands-on experience, coaching from their mentors, feedbacks on the work done and the areas of improvement.
SSMC has been actively promoting an all-inclusive workplace and our effort is being featured in Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association’s VOICE Magazine. Marking the International’s Women’s Day celebration, SSMC also supported SSIA’s Semiconductor Women’s Forum event held in March. Together, we are raising the awareness of the importance of embracing the DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusive) culture and forging towards an equal world!
SSMC is honoured to be awarded by Singapore Polytechnic (SP) as a Valued Internship Partner in March 2023. SP appreciates SSMC for offering effective internship programmes to develop their young talents with relevant engineering skills to gain a head start in the semiconductor industry.
SSMC has expanded the existing warehouse space by 37% to cope with the increased loading and handling of the high volume of wafer shipments. An opening ceremony was held on 24 March 2023. The management representatives graced the new Finished Goods facilities, cut the ribbon and celebrated this achievement together with the staff of BO & Supply Chain division.
In line with SSMC’s Corporate Social Responsibility priorities we have been strong supporter of WWF’s Earth Hour. On 25 March 2023, turned off our non-essential lights at our site from admin building to external facilities and carpark for an hour to reflect upon the “lights off” moment that every simple effort can help conserve energy and tackle climate change. Let’s shape a brighter future together!
In February, SSMC people made a difference. Together with Singapore Red Cross, we support and aid the recovery from this catastrophe in the Humanitarian Efforts for Turkey and Syria Earthquake Disaster. With our management team’s dollar-for-dollar matching, total donation fund was raised to S$15,000. This brings help and hope in dark times to the victims and survivors who are in need of essential supplies and emergency relief.

On 8 March 2023, SSMC celebrated International Women’s Day with both male and female staff participated in striking the #EmbraceEquity pose, “Encouraging & Empowering People” talk and games. Our management also took part in the #DEI pledge to promote and create an environment of equal opportunities in workplace and a culture of diversity irrespective to gender, race or religion.
